Abstract

The border region between Indonesia and Malaysia in Kalimantan is an important area facing various complex issues, ranging from unequal development and cross-border illegal activities to the welfare concerns of local communities. This study aims to analyze the forms of cooperation between the two countries in managing the border region in Kalimantan, with attention to the mechanisms used, the challenges encountered, and their impact on the people living in the border areas. The method applied in this study is descriptive qualitative research using a literature review approach. The findings show that cooperation between the two countries is carried out through several main mechanisms: (1) integrated patrols conducted by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Malaysian Army (TDM) through the Border Security Task Force (Satgas Pamtas); (2) the exchange of strategic intelligence information within the framework of the General Border Committee (GBC); (3) Malaysia-Indonesia Socioeconomic Cooperation (Sosek Malindo) for regional development; and (4) the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in the fields of defense and security. Although this cooperation has shown positive results, several obstacles remain, such as differences in standard operating procedures, inadequate infrastructure, and economic disparities that must be addressed continuously
