Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) facilitates academic activities, but intensive use may lead to dependency that affects students’ cognitive processes and interactions. This study explores AI dependency in business communication skills and negotiation abilities among Management students at Universitas Bina Mandiri Gorontalo. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed involving six second-semester students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation and analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model. The findings indicate that AI improves academic efficiency and helps students produce more structured written communication. However, intensive AI use indicates a tendency toward dependency that may reduce opportunities to practice oral communication, engage in deeper discussions, and independently develop arguments. In negotiation, AI helps students understand strategies and alternative responses but cannot replace direct practice requiring empathy, adaptability, and spontaneous responses. Therefore, AI should be positioned as a learning support tool rather than a substitute for independent thinking and interpersonal interaction
