Abstract

Academic information systems are critical services in higher education institutions that demand high availability. However, data center infrastructures in various institutions, as seen in the case study at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, are often not equipped with an integrated Disaster Recovery Center (DRC), making them vulnerable to downtime and data loss risks. This study aims to design a virtualization-based DRC model to ensure the continuity of academic IT services by balancing technical and managerial aspects. The approach utilizes Design Science Research (DSR), initiated with a Business Impact Analysis (BIA) to determine the Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) metrics. The stages proceed with the design of IT infrastructure architecture and the development of a governance model. The result of this research is a comprehensive DRC architecture blueprint that includes network topology, virtual backup and replication strategies, operational designs, and supporting policies. The proposed model provides a cost-effective disaster recovery solution, enhances service resilience, and offers a practical framework that can be replicated by other higher education institutions in Indonesia
